Fashion in Design: Hepburn Chairs

(Audrey Hepburn image via)

We are excited to pay homage to such a classic fashion icon this week.  Audrey Hepburn personified elegance both on screen and off.

This dress from the film Sabrina personifies that elegance.  The black embroidery is simple but the contrast between black and white create a striking contrast.  We thought using a black and white pattern on the chair covers for this event would give a graceful accent to the décor.

Who are your favorite fashion icons?

I loved this wedding so much that I used it as inspiration for a client this past July. We certainly couldn’t go all out but we did use some of the color and lighting to make it feel that way.

An icon of the Indian Fashion industry and a frontrunner in establishing a position for India in the global forum, Ritu Kumar’s contribution has been impeccable to the fashion fraternity, both nationally and internationally. With almost five decades of work for display, the designer excels in both traditional and western outfits, though ethnic attires being her specialty. She was the first women to bring the boutique culture to India, under the name “Ritu”. The gradual change in the fashion scenario has also lead to a change of designs for her brand. She is classic and connects to the deep roots of her heritage. I have followed her designs since I was in high school. Her mirror work and details are amazing.

I love the contrast in this design and the way lighting was used. It’s an elegant way to cover chairs and it provides a clean look for the event.

I love the strength that comes through the simplicity. Perfect (and my taste).

I love love love this! I am a little obsessed with black and white patterns. My favorite of the moment is a black and white pineapple damask that I have combined with red and white for a Valentine display. I have also used it with a plum and apple green design. ‘

    Thanks Preston!
